Common questions

Do I need prior experience in product management to attend CIL? +
A background in product management is not mandatory, but the programme is positioned at an advanced level and is best suited to professionals who already work in management, marketing, technology, or project leadership roles. Participants with little exposure to product or innovation work may find the pace demanding. Reviewing foundational product management concepts before attending is advisable.
What is the AIPMM and why does its accreditation matter? +
AIPMM is the Association of International Product Marketing and Management, a globally recognised body that sets professional standards for product and innovation management. The CIL® credential is issued under AIPMM's authority, which means it is recognised by employers and professional communities beyond any single country or region. Holding an AIPMM-accredited certification signals adherence to an internationally accepted body of knowledge.
How is the CIL® certification examination structured and assessed? +
The examination is included within the programme and follows the AIPMM CIL® certification standard. An exam review session is built into the four days to help candidates consolidate key concepts and terminology before sitting the test. Successful candidates receive the CIL® certificate upon completion; candidates who do not pass should consult AIPMM's official retake policy directly.
In what language is the CIL® exam administered? +
The examination is administered in English, consistent with AIPMM's global certification standards. All course materials provided are also in English, so a professional working level of the language is expected from participants.
How does the CIL® differ from a general project management certification? +
Project management certifications focus primarily on planning, executing, and closing defined scopes of work. The CIL® programme is specifically concerned with innovation leadership — building cultures that generate new ideas, translating customer insight into viable concepts, and managing the full lifecycle from ideation through market launch and eventual retirement. The two credentials are complementary rather than interchangeable, and many project or programme managers pursue CIL® to extend their strategic remit.
What should I do to prepare before the programme begins? +
Participants are encouraged to arrive familiar with their own organisation's current approach to innovation and product development, as exercises draw heavily on real-world scenarios. Reviewing AIPMM's published body of knowledge for innovation management provides a useful conceptual baseline. No specific pre-reading is formally required, but the more context you bring from your own role, the more directly applicable the workshops will be.
